Okay, so it is time I really updated this challenge and gave it another good go! Since starting this challenge at the beginning of the year, I have moved about 20 books from my TBR to either read, unhauled, or DNF’d and I am extremely happy about that. But I just keep buying or receiving books too, and so getting my TBR under 250 is proving elusive. Ultimately, by the end of the year, I want under 200 books on my TBR shelves, and considering I have no intention of doing a complete book buying ban, this is going to be difficult. I just need to be more strict-ish.
So here is the update from my previous TBR241. I had a stack of 10 books and I needed to decrease these by at least 2 to win back the right to buy another book.
I managed to do this! Last month my list was:
The Fall – Garth Nix (Read)
A Natural History of Dragons – Marie Brennan
The Big Over Easy – Jasper Fforde
Lord Loss – Darren Shan (Unhauled)
Desolation – Derek Landy (Read)
The Flame and the Mist – Renee Ahdieh (Started)
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde – Robert Louis Stevenson (Realised I had already read this)
The Secret History – Donna Tart
The Queen of the Tearling – Erika Johansen
Poison Study – Mary V Snyder
So that made 4 books off that list, 1 started, and I could purchase 2 for my birthday!
So for my birthday, I was extremely good, and I did only purchase 2 books. But that means I now need to add four more to that list! Oh no!
The four I have added are below…well, four-ish…
WILDCARD
Now, I already have Poison Study on my list, and this is one that is later in the series. I haven’t read Poison Study yet, and I don’t know if I will like it, so I am going to let this choice be a wildcard! Any book that was on my TBR pre-2018 can count for this one. But I still have to read this book to earn 0.5 of a book back.
Graeme Macrae Burnet – His Bloody Project
This is intriguing, and I do really want to read it, but I’m trying to join in with Femmeuary – organised by Lauren from Laurenandthebooks, so I don’t think I’m going to read it this month. As such, this may remain on the TBR241 for a little while, but I will probably try to slip it in early March and try to reduce this. We will see!
Patricia Cornwell – A Kay Scarpetta Novel
I have no idea where I am up to in this series. I don’t remember reading the first books, but my books look read (spines broken and cracked) so I must have done at some point? Not that it really matters. Ultimately, this is the perfect type of read for after stressful days at work. Quick and easy, and easy to retain when you’re falling asleep. Also, a kickass female protagonist, so maybe a good Femmueary read?
Justin Cronin – The Passage
These books are massive! And so are a lot of the others on this TBR list. The challenge has been really cruel to me because these aren’t books that I am ready to unhaul, but I’m not certain that I will actually have time to read them either. I’m going to have to be very strict with myself either reading-wise or buying-wise. I got this because I wanted something that would really creep me out, so hopefully, this will do the trick…at some point?
Unfortunately, I am back to a pile of 10 books again for this challenge, which is my limit. I cannot buy any other books until I have read more again from the pile. This is a sad, sad time.
Happy reading!
I had to laugh because A Natural History of Dragons has been on my “must read soon” list for so long. I swear I really will read it soon. Happy Belated Birthday!

First off, happy belated birthday. Four books off the list and then four back on … well, it could certainly be worse. 🙂

I love the way we justify buying books. Why can’t we just have Belle’s library?
