#TBR241

In keeping with my reading resolutions for 2018, I have decided to create my own tag, the TBR 241 challenge. Throughout the year I will be making sure that for every 1 book I buy, I have to read/unhaul 2 books from my pre2018 owned TBR. Most of the books that I now have on my TBR are books I would like to read but haven’t gotten around to, either due to mood, time, or just too many books, so this is going to force me to give them ago!

Screen Shot 2018-01-06 at 00.57.39The rules… For every 1 new book that I purchase (excluding books for YA book club) I will be required to pick 2 books from my pre2018 owned TBR before I am allowed to purchase any more. To decide what 2 books I need to read or unhaul,  I have made some ‘wheels pickers’. I will spin 2 of these wheels for each book and that way I get books from different areas of my TBR. I will then pick these books and choose whether to read them completely, try but DNF (and then give away) or just give away because I really do not want it. The only condition? If it is a book in a later part of the series, I will read either the first in the series or the book that I currently up to in its place.

Why am I doing this? I am a book collector, and I love having a large library surrounding me, but I want that to be made up of books I have actually read, rather than books that are just sat there for years. There are some books which I have had for almost 10 years now and I need that to change. I need to not just balance the new books I buy by reading 1 book, but actually reduce my TBR, by getting rid of an additional book each time.

So here is my first #TBR241!

Today I purchased Exit West by Mohsin Hamid, and The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton, Wayne chose The Lost Plot by Genevieve Cogman for me, which sounds great, but since he accidentally got me a book that is 4th in a series, I don’t have to count this one until I purchase the first. That means I have 2 new books, and so I need to find 4 books from my pre2018 Owned TBR. Time to spin the wheels…

The four books that I need to read, DNF, or unhaul are

The Secret History – Donna TartScreen Shot 2018-01-06 at 01.10.12

I started to read this in October, but then got another book I wanted to read instantly and just kind of left this by the side. I think I’ll enjoy it though, so I should go back to this.

The Queen of the Tearling – Erika Johansen Screen Shot 2018-01-06 at 01.10.36

This was suggested by a good friend about 4 years ago. I picked it up, intended to read it, and never got round to it. I definitely want to give this a try to see whether the series is worth continuing with.

Poison Study – Maria V Snyder

So I purchased this entire series as a boxset really cheaply, but haven’t read it. I then got the first book again as a secret Santa present. I am not sure if I will like this, but Regan at Peruse Project seems to love it, so I am hopeful?

This is a really small series by Garth Nix, and I have genuinely loved everything I’ve ever read by him so far, so I think I can finish this book quickly and get it off my TBR and then maybe tackle the rest of the series too?

So that is my #TBR241 at the moment. Hopefully, I can get at least two of these off my list quite quickly and earn myself a new book (as there are so many January releases I want!). I will consistently update my reading progress through Twitter and Goodreads, and will update my blog about this in my reading wrap up for this month!

If you’d like to join the challenge, please use #tbr241 to let me know! I’d love to see how others do as well.

Happy Reading!

  1. “I am a book collector, and I love having a large library surrounding me, but I want that to be made up of books I have actually read, rather than books that are just sat there for years.” THIS. I totally agree.

This is a neat idea! Definitely something I need, haha. I too have books I have not read in years but have on my shelf collecting dusts! I might join the challenge, I have to get out of this weird slump that’s been dragging me for 2 years now? *sigh*

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. It would be amazing if you joined in with the challenge. If you do this, or something similar, please let me know, as I’d love to see it!

Unfortunately, I already need to do another of these posts. Ha! I ventured into the bookstore again, but there has to be a limit on how many books can be in this challenge. Think i’ll do the second post this weekend.

It could be a great way to get out of the slump! Just starting to blog about the books and talk about them helped me!
