It’s the first of NaNoWriMo!
So NaNoWriMo is a month close to my heart when people frantically type, or handwrite, what they hope will become the first draft of their novel. I have always loved books, and have always wanted to write one, but I struggle. I struggle because I procrastinate, and because I have issues with finishing a draft, and because sometimes, well I just suck. Years ago, I discovered NaNoWriMo and since I have a half-finished novel, a finished first draft of a novel, a finished collection of short stories which total over 50,000 words, and hopefully, this year, another finished first draft of a book that has been gesticulating for four or five years.
I introduced my little sister to the junior version of NaNoWriMo in 2009 and since then, she has completed 4 first drafts and a degree in creative writing. NaNoWriMo is incredibly important to me and my family, and I love being able to do it.
So I’m joining again this year. But as with all NaNoWriMo’s, things just got a bit complicated. Originally, I had no job, and so all the time in the world. But on the 31st October I found out that I would be starting my first teaching job, and as such, my time is about to be cut drastically short. I also have an academic book chapter to work on, this reading blog, and, well, life. I am going to try anyway…
This year, my plan is to finally get the first book in a series that I have been planning for years written. I have no outline, I have no research or character plans, I just have an idea that I’ve spent so long talking about, dreaming about, and planning. All my family are desperate for me to write it, and I finally need to just get it down.
To everyone else who is doing NaNoWriMo this month, I wish you the best of luck, I am KasiP on the forums, so you’re welcome to buddy up or send me a message.
Good luck, and happy writing!
